WebTalk: German Flood Disaster Event 2021

Heavy rainfall events are among the most underestimated hazards, as they can occur anywhere and lead to severe flood disasters. Floods as part of extreme meteorological events represent one of the three scenarios which serve as a basis for the INCREASE project. Based upon assessments of risks, needs, and capacities as well as the development of the Integrated Disaster Risk Management (IDRM) concept will be realized. In this regard the WebTalk would like to inform about the severe flood events in July 2021 in Germany and give an inside in activities and research realized by German project partners. The WebTalk will start with a chronology and current insights into the July 2021 flood disaster and realized research by TH Köln and University of Bonn. DRU will then show a short video to provide a visual insight into socio-scientific observations on the flood. The German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) will present their operational work and Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IÖR) will talk about analysing flood resilience on building level. In the end, the audience is invited to join the discussion. Thereby, this WebTalk will encourage further exchange to foster resilience in Iran and Germany.
